About the Tour
Some historians say that Sardinia is none other than the mythical Atlantis. Easy to believe: it is a wonderful region full of treasures and its oldest buildings, the “nuraghe”, date back 3,500 years and more.
Sardinia is famous for its fantastic emerald sea and coastline, for its twisty, beautiful, and perfectly paved roads, and for its excellent food and wines, different from any other Italian region.
The local dialect, full of Spanish and Arabic words, is totally incomprehensible to any other Italian. That is why Sardinians have been conquered many times over the centuries, but never really subdued.
Schedule
- Day 0: Arrival at Rome, typically in the A.M. from North America. Relax at the hotel and enjoy the afternoon in Rome. A “Meet & Greet” with guests and staff in the late afternoon before our ‘Welcome Dinner’ that evening in Rome.We do recommend arriving 1-2 Days early to explore Rome and adjust to the new time zone.
- Day 1: After breakfast, a van will take us directly to pick up the cars; just the beginning of our first day of driving through Tuscany to arrive in Livorno. From there, we will board a ferry with overnight accommodation to Olbia, Sardinia.
- Day 2: Arriving early in the morning at Olbia, our beautiful and exciting drive begins crossing the famous Emerald Coast heading west. Hotel & Spa for two nights.
- Day 3: A loop drive along amazing twisty roads is planned before returning to the same hotel. Visit of the Catalan-speaking town of Alghero with dinner on the Spanish ramparts.
- Day 4: Heading south along one of the most scenic coastal roads of Italy, to reach a magnificent resort perched on a cliff above the Sardinian Sea.
- Day 5: Crossing the Island west to east to visit the impressive “Nuraghe” of Barumini, a 3500-year-old stone village, UNESCO site, before reaching another enchanting resort along the east coast.
- Day 6: An incredible drive along the Canyon of Gorropu, the longest of Europe, to the port of Olbia for our overnight ferry ride back to the mainland.
- Day 7: Arriving in the a.m. at Civitavecchia, we drive along scenic roads of Lazio region before dropping off the Miatas and getting transported by van to our Rome hotel. The day in Rome finishes with an open bar and a fantastic ‘Tour Celebration’ dinner.
